Acid House Creator is the second single from "The Life and Times” album. It comes stamped with the Andrew Weatherall seal of approval after he featured it on his Resident Advisor podcast.

The original is a pitched down deep house chugger that is heavy on atmosphere, lulling you in to the break when WHOOMPH! Arps take over, the bass unfolds then it’s tops off and time to get your gurn on. Things are taken down again and before you know it the break is back bigger, badder and better than the first time.

The first remix comes from the unofficial King of Norway Ralph Myerz and officially a producer who smashes it every time. Harking back to the legendary Erot, this is a pacy main room deep disco floor filler. Messy claps, clav, bumping bass, acid and plenty of disco dust hit the sweet spot and that’s before Javiera Menas brings the Brazilian flavour.

San Francisco’s Tal M. Klen takes things subterranean with a mix that is full of wonk and acid. There’s a heavy groove lurking under the bonnet with lush strings and Detroit pads sweetening the taste but this is serious electronic dance music for those who know.

Finally Paper favourites 2 Billion Beats take things to the beach. There’s a live kit, 80s bass, plenty of synths and we’re talking balearic baby as the original parts are woven in to a dreamy delight.

FLASH ATKINS - LEVENSHULME ORPHANAGE FOR BOYS

Flash Atkins is a drunkard, drug user and general wrong’un. A super hero who has fallen from his purple patch in the 80s to purple stains on his pants in the 00. He is also the alter go of Paper Recordings’ Ben Davis and Levenshulme Orphanage For Boys is the first single from his forthcoming album Paper album “The Life and Times of Flash Atkins”. Each track title is named after a chapter of a short story to be published as an accompaniment to the long player. 

Levenshulme Orphanage For Boys is a slo-mo tech heavy chugger that is locked down with rock sold beats and a throbbing side-chained bass. The track builds with synth lines before a sampled female vocal brings in some sparse melody and reinforces the hypnotic rhythm. An acid line adds to the tension before the reaching it’s peak with all the elements hitting home. 

The Deaf Boys Dub goes down a more stripped back route with a Moog synth riff and techy hats along with the sampled vocal. Ricocheting snares herald the arrival of the sub and things crank up a gear. It’s proper 4am lose yourself in the smoke club music as the synth riff filters in and out. 

 Doc L. Junior is a Norwegian legend who’s not been active for a while but is back with a wallop. Deep and synthy with a hint of 80s, this is big room music that brings to mind So Get Up by Underground Sound of Lisbon. 

 Finally, Richard Seaborne turns in a classic sounding remix recalling Armand Van Helden in his prime. He ups the pace, adds a brutal bottom end, chucks in a jazz break on top of the acid and vocal and it’s dance floor dynamite.

PAPER WEEKEND IN OSLO

PROVIANT AUDIO - SLUTTEN PA ALT

 Proviant Audio - Slutten På Alt by Paper Recordings 

‘Slutten På Alt’ is one of the highlights from Proviant Audio’s debut album ‘Real Loves Tastes Like This!’ and now gets the remix treatment.

The album is a rich mix of disco, funk, soul and house which has seen the 18 year old Norwegian receive broad critical acclaim as part of the new generation of Scandavian artists.

The release kicks off with the original (promo only) which is a journey through disco and ending up on a killer riff that sounds like it's been stolen from a lost classic (it hasn't, it's all played live).

Ralph Myerz ‘Norwegian Kiss’ turns in a broken slice of soulful tech-disco. His mix moves from a soul groove to a brilliant slow-mo breakdown before lifting back into a tight house groove.

Next up, Leftside Wobble is at the controls and an artist probably best known for his superb re-edits in recent times. For his version of ‘Slutten På Alt’ he picks up the funk and runs with it, creating a dubby disco mix with plenty of bounce and leftfield soul.

Finally Paper Recordings own Flash Atkins takes things in a deeper direction fusing the best of house, techno and disco in to a late night, bottom heavy floor filler.

Q: What were your Top three tracks of 2010?
FA: Isoul8 & Mark De Clive – Stop Bajon / Lonesome Echo Production – Spirit of Drums / Flash Atkins – Make Your Move.

PA: I’m all stuck in the seventies, so it’s hard to say… Of course, some lovely music has been coming out of 2010 as well. The Samps’ self titled debut on Mexican Summer has been running a lot on my iPod, so I have to mention the tracks “Peppergood” and “Yellow Jacket”, which is pretty rude, sample-based disco/R&B dopeness. Erykah Badu’s album New Amerykah Part 2 has been one of my favorites this year as well. Tracks “Umm Hmm” produced by Madlib and “Love” produced by J Dilla in his late years.

Q: What are your plans for 2011?
FA: A Day In The Life film, mucho musica and an album dropping in the Autumn. Also getting very pissed daily, scabbing free drugs and trying to live in a house rather that a campervan, this winter’s been harsh!
RM: Finishing and releasing three albums! “Super Sonic Pulse” with guests like George Clinton and Snoop Dogg / “Outrun (Music4LateNightDrivez)” for night time experiences. and producing the new R.E.C. album “DiscoTech” with Eddie Da Bass and Carina Deejay. Then moving to California and make a lot of new music while drinking wine.
MP: Obsessive focus.
PA: Release my debut album on Paper!!!! Do a lot of remixes. produce a lot, arrange my tracks for the Royal Norwegian Navy Big Band (29 horns!) and do some amazing shows – including the by:Larm Festival in February…..and last but not least graduate from High School!!
K: Get my finger out and try to complete some of the 219 half-finished projects. There should at least be enough for my first ever album
DATG : Finally learn the bloody trumpet, get some more music released, get freaking married.

Q: What was your best Night-Time experience of 2010?
FA: It was in Amsterdam before I got mugged but that’s what happens when you go on the specialist unlicensed sex market.
RM: Watching the sunset at the beautiful Utkantfestival with my fiancée, and afterwards playing disco with Ciscoe all night long.
MP: Touring with We Love.
PA: Must be some of the summer festivals. All were super great but the best was probably the Slottsfjell Festival were I did a DJ-set along with bass, percussions and some horns in front on over 3000 funky people. My bassist claims he french-kissed about 6 girls in the audience during the show. After the show he stated “Mathias, my life started right now…”
K: All of the 8 HiFi Terapi nights at Cafe Opera in Bergen.
DATG : I’m going to hedge my bets and say it will take place on 18th Dec – Lindstrom, Tensnake, Crazy P, Ralph Lawson = Yes.

Q: Your worst Night-Time experience?
FA: Getting back to blighty after said incident.
RM: I’m not really into bad night- time experiences. I always keep it 100% good and hang out with the good people.
MP: Cant think of any bad vibes man.
PA: Nothing I would want the world to know, I guess. Often synonymous with too excessive consumption of liquids containing alcohol.
K: Drink expensive wine with Prime Minister Flash Atkins and solve all the problems together.
DATG : Hm, so few nights out these days, I make sure they’re all good!

Q: If you were leader of the world, what would you do next?
FA: Make all those lazy students get a proper job rather than bloody moaning all the time.
RM: 1. Hire Johan Galtung (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_Galtung) as the chief of all the technical economical political stuff.
2. Then make sure Final (www.Final.no ) and Kinee (Kinee.no) get listened to a lot.
3. After all this hard work and tough decisions make January the annual month of chilling out and drinking wine.
4. Make a lot of money on Aspirin in February.
5. Spend that money on buying everybody a turntable and a stack of vinyl with music so beautiful that people would want to listen to it at least for an hour a day. An album on vinyl a day, keeps the doctor away.
6. Spend all the money saved on medical bills on good sound systems in clubs.
MP: Well where do you start? I’d defo try to sort them Somalian pirates.
PA: Spread the fonk!!!
K: Drink expensive wine with Prime Minister Flash Atkins and solve all the problems together.
DATG : If I were leader of the world, I’d have a day off. Or delete the internet – that would be fun. Or in an ideal, nonrealistic world, redistribute a fraction of the profits made by the various energy companies to those in more immediate need…
