FLASH ATKLINS BUSKING IN MANCHESTER

FLASH ATKINS - CAMPERVAN EP

PAPD22 - Flash Atkins - Campervan EP by Paper Recordings

PAPD22
Flash Atkins – Campervan EP
1 Test One
2 Cherry Bounce
3 Test One (Flash Dub)
4 Cherry Bounce (Flash Dub)
Flash Atkins is a former Super Hero who lives in a Campervan in a field in deepest Yorkshire, maintaining an unhealthy addiction to drugs and booze.
Flash is actually the alter ego of Paper / The Bionics’ Ben Davis and he was created as a reaction against perma-tanned-indoors-sunglass-wearing-wanna-be-superstar DJs.
The Campervan EP is four tracks of floor rocking house music. First up, Test One has taken the original bleep classic as a starting point and given it a disco makeover. Starting off deep and percussive, it breaks to live bass and horns with plenty of analogue synths providing the electronics. Once the acid house piano comes in at the end, it’s dancefloor game over!
Cherry Bounce uses a cheeky sample to hold down a straight up take of garage house. With a bass line that nods to Farley & Heller and funked out Rhodes, it builds to a synth heavy drop before heading back in to the grooved keys.
The Test One dub strips things back to a simple nagging synth line for a big room take that has got Tribal Records running through it’s DNA. Big reverbs and heavy bass means this is simple and very effective.
Finally, the Cherry Bounce Dub goes tracky and hypnotic, riding out the original’s elements with the Rhodes getting filtered to change things up.
More quality from Flash Atkins, the man with no plan.
DJ Reactions
Rocky (X Press 2) - Cherry Bounce both versions doing it for me.
Jazzanova - Music should make people laugh too. Here is a perfect example.
Beats & Beyond - Still have the original Test One on 12", was my fave bleep track back then...cool reworks. Quality EP
Diskjokke - Nice and with an unexpected twist.
Sleazy McQueen - This is really cool. I'll certainly play test one and I'm sure Cherry Bounce will fit in my sets as well.
This Is Why We Dance - Quality forward-thinking house grooves, will support!
Ralph Myerz - Cherry Bounce is the one for me! VERY bouncy ride indeed!!!!!
Ryan Cavanagh (Slow Hands) - Solid release! Really like Test One a lot.
Billy Scurry - Ooofff!! that test one dub is a monster!!
DJ Nutritious – Phenomenal
Drop Out Orchestra - Test One is totally up our street (Charted Number 1)
Terry Farley - Love it!
Leftside Wobble - Such a clever spin on the Warp classic, the bleep disco scene starts here!
Tom Findlay (Groove Armada) - Test One dub is best for me.
Martin Brew - Ace EP! Loving the buzzy bass sounds on here. Meaty, beaty, big & bouncy.
Cosmic Boogie - Dub mix is grand.
The Lovely Jonjo - Love it. Doing warm up for Aeroplane tonight this Test One will do the job.
Q-Burns - Cherry Bounce is the one for me here. A cool track with some effective build moments + loads of shake. Into the musicality of "Test One" as well.
Stuart Patterson (Faith) - Love the way Test One turns into a different record.
Andy Ash - Test One is my favourite here. I like the way it changes throughout the track.

PROVIANT AUDIO - SLUTTEN PA ALT

‘Slutten På Alt’ is one of the highlights from Proviant Audio’s debut album ‘Real Loves Tastes Like This!’ and now gets the remix treatment.
The album is a rich mix of disco, funk, soul and house which has seen the 18 year old Norwegian receive broad critical acclaim as part of the new generation of Scandavian artists.
The release kicks off with the original (promo only) which is a journey through disco and ending up on a killer riff that sounds like it's been stolen from a lost classic (it hasn't, it's all played live).
Ralph Myerz ‘Norwegian Kiss’ turns in a broken slice of soulful tech-disco. His mix moves from a soul groove to a brilliant slow-mo breakdown before lifting back into a tight house groove.
Next up, Leftside Wobble is at the controls and an artist probably best known for his superb re-edits in recent times. For his version of ‘Slutten På Alt’ he picks up the funk and runs with it, creating a dubby disco mix with plenty of bounce and leftfield soul.
Finally Paper Recordings own Flash Atkins takes things in a deeper direction fusing the best of house, techno and disco in to a late night, bottom heavy floor filler.
Roberto Rodriguez : Absolutely loving the Ralph Myerz and Leftside Wobble mixes! Will get lots of spins!
Jim Baron (Crazy P / Ron Basejam) : Good selection of mixes, like 'em all but think Flash Atkins just shades it.
Francois Kevorkian : Both the Ralph Myerz and Leftside Wobble mixes are definitely playable.
Red Rack ‘Em : Ralph Myerz remix and original do it for me.
Tom Findlay (Groove Armada) : Love the Ralph Myerz mix
DJ Nutritious : Beautiful, unparalleled, classy dance here - artwork. All the remixes are essentials.
Joshua Iz : Fantastic...super summer is upon us.
Stuart Patterson (Faith) : I love this kid and this is a great set of mixes
Q Burns : Nifty, sprawling track here ... all the twists and turns definitely kept my interest. All a pleasure, but the Flash Atkins remix edges it for me.
Tim “Love” Lee : Love these guys!
Disco Outcasts (Manchester) : Jesus Christ!! The Flash Atkins Mix is a super bass heavy workout that will detonate massively! Also feeling Leftside Wobbles acid disco affair.
Benoit C : Cooooool EP
Neil Diablos : Realy like the Ralph Myers quirky remix but its the Flash Atkins mix doing it for me!
Yannick Labbé : Flash Atkins all the way!
Pete Herbert : Ralph Myerz! What a great remix... loved the RM stuff from years back.
James Teej : Great package, the Ralph Myerz is crazy, love the acid in the Leftside Wobble mix and Flash Atkins once again does it. Very dope.
X Press 2 : Love the Flash and Ralph mixes. Perfect show openers.
Severino Panzetta (Horsemeat Disco) : Ralph Meyerz is my fav remix Smart and groovy

Flash Atkins - The In Crowd / Flash's Theme

Flash Atkins - The In Crowd by Flash Atkins

Flash Atkins - Flash's Theme by Flash Atkins

We Are Woodville and Paper Recordings’ very own loser super hero Flash Atkins returns to centre stage with another genre-busting EP and two brand new cuts that delve deep into the realms of nu disco.
The In Crowd is a chunky and chugging groove laden number based round a hefty Roxy Music sample. It's got some heavy synths, a big break and is a perfect peaktime roof raiser!

Flash’s Theme is a laid back and jazz infused disco affair. Ronny Jordan inspired guitar lines jam over a warm bed of live drums, full bass and keys to deliver a simply infectious and timeless record.

Jazzanova - Nice 12", The In Crowd gets my support.
Rob Mello – Flash’s Theme sounds great!
Billy Scurry - Blinding release, quite hard to chose a fav butboth killer tracks... Flash is in well funky mode!!
Diskjokke - Like The In Crowd reminds me of some of those old guerilla tracks.
Ashley Beedle - Mr Atkins always brings a smile to my face. Roxy Music get's carved up and Flash's Theme is a beauty as well.
James Teej (Rekids) - Great, great music! Atkins is the man!
Faze Action – Very good, I like!
Sebastian Döring – Flash’s Theme…oh yeah!
The Dead Rose Music Company - The In Crowd floats my boat and will defo get dropped
Eric Duncan (Rub ‘n Tug) - Cool!!!!
Jim Baron (Crazy P) - I'm in with The In Crowd. Heavy stuff!
Fred Everything - Flash's Theme for me.
Tim Love Lee - Lovely stuff.
Magik Johnson - The In Crowd for me, Fatboy Slim meets DFA. Love the sleeve too.
Leftside Wobble - Proper rockin' buisness!
Trent Grimes (MOS) - Flash is king!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both dope jams!
Kiko Navarro - Excellent tracks, great for those new people who like what they call nu-disco.
Stuart Knight (Toolroom) - Flash's theme is the one for me "PROPER"
Joshua Iz - Simply good choons.
Murray Richardson - Liking The In Crowd Flashman!!!
Disco Outcasts - Massive killer track!!
Dave Pezzner - Wow! Very nice. Flash's theme is fantastic.
Krysko - The In Crowd... monster hook, will do the business for sure.
Craig Smith (6th Borough Project) - Diggin’ on Flash’s Theme
Diesel (X-Press 2) - Liking it. Will play on show.
